The theme for NAIDOC Week in 2009 is Honouring our Elders, Nurturing our Youth. The theme encourages our communities to acknowledge the status of our Elders as leaders and role models for our youth.

Canberra OzHarvest Food Rescue
Share Lunch Fight Hunger
On Wednesday, 3 September 2009, all Canberrans are encouraged to donate what they would normally spend on lunch to the Share Lunch Fight Hunger campaign, a one-day initiative aimed at assisting the disadvantaged in the community and the charities that support them.
All money raised will go to OzHarvest Canberra, a program operated by the not-for-profit Organisation, Communities@Work. OzHarvest Canberra 'rescues' food to provide meals for the disadvantaged in the community. Food otherwise wasted is collected from caterers, hotels, wholesalers, restaurants, clubs, delicatessens or other food providers.
Just one dollar to OzHarvest equals one meal, so why not donate the $10 you would normally spend on a sandwich and coffee, and provide dinner for 10 days to someone in our community who needs a hand ?
Over the past twelve months, OzHarvest Canberra has delivered a staggering 132,000 meals, with some 20,000 meals now being distributed every month to over 40 charities. Not only doe4s OzHarvest Canberra help those in need, it also prevents good food from being dumped as landfill.
Here's how you and your workplace can make a difference:
Register your workplace online at www.ozharvestcanberra.org; Select a Share Lunch Fight Hunger team leader who will coordinate donations from your workplace; Your team leader will receive a Share Lunch Fight Hunger info pack, including donation 'lunch bags', posters and collection containers; On the day, people place their lunch money in the donation 'lunch bags' provided.
All money raised on the day goes directly to OzHarvest Canberra, and all donations over $2 are tax deductible. Why not encourage your employer to match employee contributions ?
Online registrations close on 21 August 2009, but all donations will be accepted by OzHarvest Canberra after this date. Just simply donate your lunch money at www.ozharvestcanberra.org
On 3 September, we are aiming to raise $25,000 in Canberra. That means 25,000 meals for the disadvantaged in our community. Imagine the difference you can make with as little as $1 !

October 2009
Throughout October, buy a Bandanna, and help CanTeen help young people living with cancer.
30 October 2009
CanTeen
National Bandanna Day is CanTeen's biggest annual fundraiser.
In 2009, National Bandanna Day will be on Friday, 30 October.
Bandannas are on sale throughout the month of October at selected outlets and in schools, and can be purchased on the streets on 30th October. A symbol of the cancer experience for young people, the bandanna is more than just a fashion accessory. At the same time, the funky and youthful bandannas symbolise the emphasis that CanTeen places on enjoying every moment and living life to the full.
The money raised from National Bandanna Day goes towards CanTeen’s programs, camps and services, which are designed to bring young people living with cancer together in a safe and supportive environment. In this environment, CanTeen Members learn about the emotional, physical and practical issues of cancer, and how to deal with these in their lives.
