LeisureLink is a volunteer program, from which trained volunteers provide friendship and support to frail seniors and people with a disability. Activities - Volunteers may accompany people on walks; outings to the movies, galleries and other local attractions; or, simply chat over coffee at a quiet venue. Volunteers may also accompany people on light shopping trips, or to medical and other appointments. Additionally, volunteers may visit people at home for friendly discussions around favourite books, music and currents affairs etc.; or, to engage in other leisure activities such as jigsaw puzzles and board games. Volunteer Characteristics - Volunteers must have a genuine interest in people; be able to listen attentively; be non-judgemental and respectful of other people's beliefs and values; and, be reliable, trustworthy and honest. Also, they must be able to maintain confidentiality. Training - Training and on-going support are provided to volunteers. Monthly support meetings offer opportunities for friendships with other volunteers. Reimbursement of Out-of-Pocket Expenses - Car allowance and reimbursement of other approved expenses apply.
